This problem has spiraled out of control. It's a total catastrophe. We've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to work. At this point, it feels like we're hopelessly stuck. Frankly, I don't know what else to do. This is a train wreck of epic proportions.

Sometimes you encounter situations so awful that you can't help but smile. It's like your brain tries to make sense of the sheer extent of unadulterated absurdity and just throws its hands up, opting for laughter as a coping strategy.
But then, you realize that it's not really hilarious. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you experienced here morphs into a groan.
Ultimately, you are left with a sense of confusion. You start ruminating about the purpose of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

Dreadful Day Ever
It all started with my case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't make it to look presentable. As I was getting ready out the door, I trippedover and with a thud all over the carpet. To make matters worse, I was totally late for school.
I arrived. My {boss|mentor|was absolutely furious. I attempted to explain, but it was pointless.
The rest of the day was just as bad. was a catastrophe. I get anything done.
By the time I got home, I was exhausted. This day, this terrible day will be forever remembered as the worst day ever.

It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to scream into a pillow.
